Cyclone Dana: Odisha Reports Zero Casualties Post-Landfall; Heavy Rains to Persist on Oct 25 | Weather.com

 which struck Odisha’s northern coast as a severe cyclonic storm on Thursday midnight, weakened into a cyclonic storm by Friday morning.

It is now moving north-northwestwards at a speed of 10 km/h, the storm was centred at 8:30 AM IST near latitude 21.20°N and longitude 86.70°E, about 30 km northeast of Bhadrak and 50 km north-northwest of Dhamara, with winds of 80-90 km/h gusting to 100 km/h, and is expected to gradually weaken into a deep depression in the next six hours.
Rainfall warnings and alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall across several districts in Odisha, including Baleswar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Puri on October 25. Accordingly, a red warning has been issued, with some regions expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 21 cm.

Districts in Gangetic West Bengal, including Kolkata, and parts of Jharkhand have also been placed under a red warning and orange alert, respectively, as the cyclone’s impact spreads across eastern India.
'Zero casualty' mission turns successful

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that no fatalities had occurred due to Cyclone Dana, crediting the state’s proactive evacuation and preparedness plans. “Our zero casualty mission has once again proven effective, with timely measures preventing any loss of life,” said Majhi.

Thousands of people living around Odisha's coastal areas were shifted to safety centres. The number included around 4,500 pregnant women, of whom 1,600 have already given birth, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Thursday.

Restoration efforts are already underway in the cyclone-affected regions, with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams deployed to clear uprooted trees and debris in the Dhamara area. Coastal communities in Bhadrak and nearby regions experienced turbulent weather, including strong winds and heavy rainfall, as Cyclone Dana passed through.

INDIAN NAVY'S PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES FOR HADR OPS - CYCLONE DANA

 In anticipation of the severe impact of Cyclone Dana along the coast of Odisha and West Bengal, the Indian Navy is preparing to conduct Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with Naval Officers-in-Charge (NOIC) in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, have activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism. The command is working closely with units such as the Base Victualling Yard (BVY), Material Organisation and the naval hospital INHS Kalyani to provide essential supplies and medical support if sought by the State administration.
