India eye 55-year first in Pune with prized home streak, WTC final berth at stake in 2nd New Zealand Test

Set a 359-run target, India would not only be hoping to defy conditions, but also history to save the series Ravindra Jadeja did not pick up a single wicket in the second Test against New Zealand in Pune until Saturday morning, when he snared three and inflicted a run out to fold the visitors for 255 in their second innings on the third day of the second Test. But New Zealand built a lead of 358 runs, and the victory target of 359 is quite challenging on a crumbling Pune pitch, implying that India would not only be hoping to defy conditions, but also history to save the series. Santner magic propels New Zealand towards history

Mitchell Santner registered his second fifer in the game and maiden ten-wicket match haul in Tests to put New Zealand on the brink of a historic series win against India in Pune. The afternoon session on the third day saw the hosts lose six wickets, five of them to Santner (5-72) while the other wicket was a run out that was also influenced by him in the field. It meant that India went into tea at 178/7, still needing another 181 runs for victory. In all likelihood, New Zealand are primed to hand India their first home series defeat at home since 2012. The session, however, started on a bright note for India with Yashasvi Jaiswal (77) continuing his assault on the New Zealand bowlers. His intent and shot selection were bang on point, putting the bowlers under severe pressure. Santner, though, was yet to wield his magic. He began his masterclass by taking out Shubman Gill who edged one to slip. The left-arm spinner then landed the killer blow by finding the outside edge of Jaiswal...
